Optometry

B.Sc. Optometry or Bachelor of Science in Optometry or Ophthalmic Optics is an undergraduate Optometric course. Optometry is a branch of medicine dealing with the health of the eyes and associated components. The examination, diagnosis, and treatment of eyes, including visual and optical symptoms, refractive problems, and their correction using lenses and other optical aids, are all included in the Bachelor of Science in Optometry degree program.

The study of vision screening (eye testing), diagnosis of visual problems, orthoptics, and vision training, optometric counseling of patients with partial sight, color blindness, and hereditary vision defects, and designing and fitting of spectacles, contact lenses, and low vision aids are all covered in the Bachelor of Science in Optometry degree program. The Bachelor of Science program lasts three years (four years at certain colleges, which include one year of internship) and is significant and career-oriented in nature, providing applicants with a wide range of options.

  • Candidates belonging to all categories for admission to the Allied Health Sciences should have passed the qualifying examinations after period of 12 years of study with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology with minimum 35% marks in each subjects (Academic / Vocational Stream).

B.Sc. Optometry Eligibility for Lateral Entry

  • The lateral entry is applicable for all the UG Degree Course of Allied Health Science wherever corresponding Diploma Course is available in the concerned specialty. The duration of one year Internship applicable for all the Lateral Entry Candidates.
