BAMS or  Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. BAMS course is an undergraduate degree program that focuses on the study of Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine that originated in India. BAMS course combines knowledge from both modern medical science and traditional Ayurvedic principles to train students as Ayurvedic doctors and practitioners. BAMS course graduates are equipped to diagnose, treat, and prevent various health issues using Ayurvedic therapies, herbal remedies, diet, and lifestyle recommendations.

Ayurveda has achieved widespread recognition in India as an alternate way of medical treatment. Western medicines are more expensive than Ayurvedic medicines. Ayurvedic remedies can cure a wide range of ailments. The BAMS course focuses on Ayurvedic disease therapy. BAMS is entirely based on the wonderful characteristics of herbs, and its medications are highly renowned for their natural element content.

During the BAMS course, students are taught about the principles of Ayurveda, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, and Surgery. In the BAMS course, They are also trained in various traditional healing methods such as Panchakarma, Yoga, and Naturopathy. After completion of BAMS, students can practice as Ayurvedic doctors and surgeons.

BAMS Eligibility Criteria 
  • To pursue BAMS courses in Indian colleges/universities, aspirants should clear Class 12 in the Science stream with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) subjects.
  • In most cases, the minimum percentage of students require in Class 12 to be eligible for BAMS course admissions is 50% to 60%. However, the minimum percentage criteria change depending on a college/ university policy.
  • Some universities may also have a minimum age bar as their BAMS eligibility criteria.
  • Candidates who fulfil the above eligibility criteria for BAMS need to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and qualify for it.
